2024 Spanish IT Sourcing Study
The 2024 Spanish IT Sourcing Study, conducted in collaboration with Eraneos, is the largest to date, with nearly 300 participants from top IT-spending organisations in Spain. This comprehensive report evaluates close to 900 unique IT sourcing relationships and more than 750 cloud platform relationships, providing unparalleled insights into the leading IT service and cloud platform providers.
The IT services market in Spain is expected to grow
In 2024, 43% of Spanish organisations plan to increase spending on external IT providers, a 9% rise from last year. While 31% anticipate no change, 13% plan to reduce IT spending, the highest percentage recorded. Additionally, 13% are unsure about their future sourcing plans. The public sector and financial services are expected to experience the highest growth, with 47% and 43% of respondents planning to increase spending.
Scalability and access to talent remain the top reasons for doing business with IT providers
Scalability remains the primary reason organisations plan to increase spending on external IT providers, cited by 60% of respondents. Access to talent and resources is second with 53%, followed by access to innovation with 46%. In contrast, retaining key knowledge is the primary reason for bringing more IT functions in-house.
Shift to onshore outsourcing
Interest in onshore outsourcing (within Spain) is rising, with 27% planning to increase this delivery model and only 6% anticipating a decrease. As northern and central Europe demand more nearshore options, Spain is becoming a competitive alternative due to its expanding IT industry and improved English proficiency.

Limited AI impact: over half of organisations don’t currently use AI, and only 14% report major benefits
19% of respondents reported that they do not use AI or generative AI significantly. 32% said they are experimenting with AI but are not currently using it—meanwhile, 31% use AI with a minor impact on their business processes. Only 12% indicated that AI significantly impacts their operations, while just 2% reported that AI has transformed their business operations.
Security remains the #1 area for new investments in IT
Security leads in new IT investments, with 70% of clients focusing on enhancing security measures and cyber defence capabilities. Automation follows, with 61% planning to invest in automating business processes to improve efficiency and streamline operations. Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning is the third priority (51%), showing the only notable increase over last year as more organisations develop or acquire these capabilities.
